RIM Partners with Consilient on GroupWise Compatibility

Consilient Technologies plans to provide Novell GroupWise users with wireless access to email via the BlackBerry platform from Research In Motion (RIM) using its Mail Extension (MX) software developed through the BlackBerry ISV Alliance Program.

Currently, the companies said BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports integration with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino based environments. Using MX software, they said any corporate email system including Novell GroupWise may be wirelessly extended to BlackBerry handhelds without supplementary hardware purchases or changes to the handhelds.

According to Consilient Technologies, MX creates a communication link between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the GroupWise server without using a desktop redirector. MX supports all BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and leverages Triple DES encryption security provided by the BlackBerry platform for corporate customers.
