The city of Loveland Colorado is combining PowerCAD CE from GiveMePower Corporation, a mobile/wireless handheld CAD system, with AutoCAD Map, a desktop Geographical Information System (GIS) system from Autodesk. According to the company, although the City of Loveland lacked the substantial capital needed to implement a more costly solution, in order to meet its future requirements, the City required a way for its field staff and external contractors to remotely access critical, up-to-date municipal mapping data housed in the City's AutoCAD Map GIS computer system. The city selected PowerCAD CE running on Pocket PCs as an extension to AutoCAD Map, successfully integrating the two software systems. "As a small municipality, we simply could not afford the expensive GIS solutions that our larger counterparts could," says Stephen Krajewski, GIS Specialist, Water and Power Department, City of Loveland. "Our Water and Power and Land Records Departments are constantly providing engineers, field crews, locators and other contractors access to maps and drawings from our master file. Before implementing PowerCAD CE, we were only able to provide this information in a 290-page printed map book, which is very costly to produce and update."
