Mobile Automation Updates Windows CE Management Suite

Mobile Automation has added a set of new features to its mobile system management solution for the Windows CE platform. The company said the latest additions to Mobile System Manager, part of Mobile Automation's Mobile Lifecycle Management Suite, offers IT administrators increased manageability of their CE devices through enhanced security, new CE script commands, improved inventory items and added support for relay/secondary command servers.

According to Mobile Automation, these new features enhances its security, scripting, inventory and server capabilities, providing organizations with increased manageability of Windows CE devices. Upgraded features include:

-- Security: Increased security for Windows CE devices, with Mobile ZapIt, which allows IT administrators to delete specified files, or all data, on a lost or stolen CE device. Mobile System Manager also supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.

-- Inventory: Increased inventory items for Windows CE devices include owner information, version information on detailed software, registered software, password enabled/disabled status, and internal ROM serial number, thus allowing IT administrators to gather a complete view of mobile devices deployed throughout the enterprise.

-- Scripting: New CE script commands offer the ability to manage connections (add/edit connection) and set the owner/address on devices, along with the ability to force a user to set a device password. These new features provide an increased level of manageability to Windows CE devices.

-- Relay/Secondary Command Server Support: The company claims Windows CE devices now can take full advantage of the same highly scalable architecture that has been offered to Windows PC users of Mobile Automation's software since 1999. This architecture provides users with the ability to easily and quickly add server technology to rapidly scale an implementation of Mobile System Manager to tens of thousands of users.
