Onset Offers Network Printing to Blackberry users

Onset Technology today announced the release of its mPrint enterprise software, which gives owners of Blackberry handheld devices the ability to print documents, messages and Web pages to any network printer or fax machine.

MPrint was introduced with Onset's Metamessage for Wireless version 4.0 software suite in September, and is now available as a stand-alone product. "We found that there was a market for just the network printing component," said Steve Koontz, director of communications for Onset.

Last month, Hewlett-Packard unveiled a mobile enterprise printing option that lets users print on networked devices from Pocket PC and Blackberry devices. HP is offering a stand-alone printing option for Pocket PC users beginning in December.

Koontz said that unlike the HP solution, mPrint doesn't require that administrators supply a list of printers, and users don’t need to enter a specific path and printer name to print. Instead, users can browse all the shared printers on a network. In addition, they can print to any fax machine by entering the fax number.
