Pumatech Intellisync Passes SyncML Test

Synchronization vendor Pumatech has made available Intellisync for SyncML software, which synchronizes email and PIM data between SyncML-compliant devices and PC applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise and ACT!. According to Pumatech, Intellisync is now SyncML, Palm OS, Pocket PC, Windows CE and Symbian Release 5.0 compatible.

Intellisync for SyncML successfully completed SyncML Conformance and Interoperability Testing in September 2002 at SyncFest in Las Vegas, and is now officially recognized as being SyncML-compliant. Pumatech said it is a member of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a consortium of companies and standards bodies, including the SyncML Initiative Ltd., with the goal of removing barriers to interoperability and accelerating the development and adoption of new technologies.

Pumatech also announced that NEC Corporation will begin offering Pumatech's Intellisync for SyncML software with selected mobile handsets in 2003 with either Intellisync Lite software or the full version of Intellisync. NEC said it will offer Intellisync for SyncML to customers as a product bundle, Web download, or separate option for its mobile handsets, depending on the geographic region and carrier to whom it is selling.
