By PDAStreet Staff Samsung Electronics has licensed Picsel Technologies'Interactive File Viewer (IFV), which is based on Picsel's ePAGE architecture, to upgrade the multimedia capabilities of its Smartphones. Picsel's said its ePAGE multimedia content engine enables virtually any type of file or object to be viewed and manipulated on mobile devices, PDA's, games consoles, set-top boxes and in-car systems, without the source application being resident or the content re-engineered. The company said the technology may be optimised for a variety of devices, screen sizes and operating systems, and may sit on top of or be embedded into the resident operating system. According to Picsel, its IFV will allow users of Samsung mobile phones to download and interact with files in widely used formats such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, HTML, eBook, Adobe PDF, Kanji Support, streaming video standards, and 40 graphic and image formats. The license agreement places Samsung as a Picsel Tier One partner. Under the license, Samsung may apply IFV to a variety of Smartphones, to be distributed worldwide, including CDMA and GSM standards in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
