Intermec Technologies has introduced a new rugged Pocket PC, the 700 Color. In addition to Pocket PC 2002 software, the company said the 700 Color integrates up to three radios in a single device, including 802.11b and BlueTooth technologies as well as Wireless Wide Area Network integrated options that include radios for GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1xRTT networks. The 700 Color is also available with imaging or laser scanning technologies. The 2D-imager option reads two-dimensional matrix codes as well as omni-directional 1D bar codes. The 1D code can be read in any orientation, eliminating, according to the company, the need to line up the scan beam perpendicular to the bars. The 2D imager also provides the capability of taking black and white photographs for applications such as proof of delivery, market surveys and field inspections. Linear 1D and PDF417 laser scanners complete the scanning lineup The 700 Color features a reflective TFT display for indoor and outoor lighting, a 3.8-inch (97 mm) (diagonal) display that Intermec said is 20% larger than most other devices on the market. Multi-Purpose Application Platform The company also said the 700 Color is designed from the ground up for use in harsh environments, as it is able to withstand multiple 5-ft. (1.5 m) drops to concrete and is sealed against rain and dust to IP64 standards. Availability of the 700 Color is slated for Q3. Volume quantity pricing is available (the company said this is typically how it's purchased. Average pricing for the unit is expected to be $1595-1995, depending on options.
