In move to enhance the number of applications available for the Nokia 9200 Series Communicator, AppForge and Nokia are making the AppForge Booster available at no cost for the Nokia 9290 Communicator. AppForge said the AppForge Booster is an operating system extension that enhances the functionality of handheld devices, including the ability to run the thousands of applications written with AppForge MobileVB and Microsoft Visual Basic.

"We are very pleased with the number of applications the AppForge developers are delivering to our 9200 Series Communicator," said Donna Regenbaum, director of Forum Nokia, Americas. "One of Nokia's goals in adopting industry standards and open architecture platforms has been to enable as much of the developer community to write applications for our devices as possible. AppForge is helping us accomplish this goal in an accelerated timeframe."

"This is great news to the Microsoft developer community, the Symbian developer community, and users of Symbian OS-based devices, specifically the Nokia 9200 Series Communicator," said Mark Lummus, Vice President of Business Development at AppForge. "Historically, our developer base has strongly favored platforms in which they or their customers do not have to purchase the AppForge Booster client."

"Based on this decision and the upcoming Symbian OS devices from Nokia and other Symbian OEM's, our developers have committed to delivering more than 500 new applications for Symbian OS by the end of this year," Lummus continued. "AppForge developers have already posted more than 50 new applications for Symbian devices on Nokia America's Software Market as well as other software sites such as Handango, and we have only been shipping for two weeks."

AppForge Booster for the Palm OS is also provided at no cost to the developer or customer, courtesy of PalmSource. The suggested retail price of AppForge MobileVB is $899. Registered users of earlier versions of AppForge Professional can upgrade to MobileVB for $200. Registered users of AppForge Standard Edition can upgrade to MobileVB for $300. Registered users of AppForge Personal Edition can upgrade to MobileVB for $600. Registered users of AppForge Personal Edition can upgrade to MobileVB lite for $69.
