Companies Bring Physicians' Desk Reference Drugs to Handhelds

Skyscape, Inc., a provider of mobile solutions for the healthcare community, is partnering with Thomson Healthcare, publisher of the Physicians' Desk Reference(PDR) for doctors, to electronically enhance the PDR guide to bring it to both Pocket PC and Palm OS devices by creating Skyscape PDRDrugs.

The companies said Skyscape PDRDrugs is based on the same FDA-approved prescribing information in the PDR. With Skyscape PDRDrugs, doctors can instantly access drug information on more than 1,500 drugs and retrieve any other Skyscape medical reference information in context including drug interactions.

"Thomson Healthcare is excited to partner with Skyscape to bring PDR, the physician's most trusted resource, to a new channel on handheld devices," said Marcus Underwood, vice president, Internet Initiatives for Thomson Healthcare. "Now having the PDR in the Skyscape format, physicians have a new level of ease and integrated access to concise, accurate and in context drug information."

According to the companies, Skyscape PDRDrugs enables physicians to search for drugs by brand or generic name, indication, or therapeutic class. Doctors can search for drug indications and contraindications; warnings and precautions; adult and pediatric dosing; how supplied; DEA class; manufacturer's name; adverse reactions; Black Box warnings; and more. When PDRDrugs is linked with other Skyscape-powered products such as Griffith's 5 Minute Clinical Consult (5MC) published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, users can also check for additional clinical conditions, drug interactions and updates.

Skyscape PDRDrugs is available for $49.95.
