By James Miller Onset Technology, a developer of mobile enterprise software, has introduced a new version of its METAmessage for Wireless software featuring connectivity designed for law firms and the legal community. The company claims METAmessage for Wireless - Legal is among the first software applications to give handheld users access to enterprise-wide document management systems such as iManage WorkSite and Hummingbird DM. Onset is also part of the iManage iDevelop partner program. According to Onset, the new application offers secure access to document management systems from a BlackBerry or other handheld device. CRM software databases are also compatible, with support for Interface Software's InterAction solution expected within Q1. Users can also obtain network files and other corporate data including client contact information. By expanding handheld capabilities, the company claims METAmessage decreases mobile attorneys' reliance on laptops and dialup connections, making important corporate data -- not just email -- available anywhere, anytime. In addition, METAmessage for Wireless - Legal allows BlackBerry users to open, read, and print email attachments, Web pages, and other corporate data. The remote printing capability includes printing to network printers and fax machines with no special set-up by an administrator. Onset said METAmessage for Wireless - Legal also lets a user select a form, enter data, and click Submit to send it to the METAmessage Conversion Server. The server then queries the document management system and replies to the user with the requested information such as a legal brief. Since the wireless connection uses a store-and-forward model, the company said there is no risk of losing data if the signal is lost. If desired, a system administrator using the METAmessage form designer can create custom forms. Related Links:
