LDW Software has released a high resolution version of Little Palm Pet ($8.95), its virtual pet simulation for Palm OS 5 devices. This new version adds graphics at 320 x 320 pixels as well as streams sampled sounds. Users can also generate thousands of unique pets, interact with their pet, and offer it a variety of toys.

Toysoft from wavAlarms ($11) is a Palm OS application that allows you to assign a uncompressed wave, mp3 or ogg file to any application that has an alarm. Version 1.5 adds support for PocketTunes 2.1 and higher.

Handheld gaming powerhouse Astraware are offering 50% off the price of a different title each week through December. GTS Racing Challenge was the first up, while BookWorm is the title on sale this week, bringing the cost of the game down to $7.45.

eBooks experienced strong retail sales into the third quarter of 2003 according to data released by the Open eBook Forum. Cumulative units sold for the first three quarters of 2003 (Jan – Sept) have surpassed the one million mark for the first time in a single year and are up 64% over Q3 2002. Revenues reported by retailers for the third quarter of 2003 were up 37% over the same period in 2002. These and other figures charting the eBook industry are reported in the quarterly Open eBook Forum eBook Publishing and Retail Statistics Report.

GMPSoft's Bible With You 5.0 ($7.50) is a Palm OS edition of the King James bible that now supports Sony Clie PEG-UX50 480x320 and Tungsten T3 320x480 resolution displays. New study resources, Auto Scroll and Screen Wrap features have been added. Other improvements include the addition of bookmark categories, the ability to add/edit notes, and virtual ribbons.

Space Combat is the first of the Shattered Worlds trilogy from Skwork Studio centered on the war between the Inner Planet Alliance and the Outer Colonies. Twin Paradox and Cypress Semiconductor have a solution for you with a new Compact Flash USB host adapter card called SolarExpress PDA ($89) that enables users to connect multiple USB devices, such as USB mini Flash hard drives, full-size USB keyboards, and USB printers, to a Pocket PC. The adapter works with Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 2003) installed. The device can be operated with an included AC adapter that supplies 5V of power at 500 mA to each USB host port. Without the adapter, it delivers 5V at 100 mA to each port. Look for it in February.

Beiks has introduced its first application for the Windows Mobile Smartphone platform, a port of its BDicty dictionary reader for handheld devices. With BDicty installed on a Smartphone, the company said users can view any of the lexicons available from Beiks, including language dictionaries, talking phrasebooks, medical, biblical and other specialized reference works, and more.
