Clarinet Systems, a provider of wireless infrared connectivity solutions for handhelds has released the ESB3011b, a product that that can uplink data from a Palm OS device or Pocket PC to an 802.11 network via the devices infrared port.

Unlike other Clarinet Systems' infrared switches, the company said the ESB3011b uses an 802.11b uplink instead of a cable-based Ethernet uplink, combining an 802.11b network and the infrared connectivity enabled by the IR ports on virtually all PDAs and laptops. Clarinet Systems said this eliminates the need for users to purchase 802.11b add-ons, making the ESB3011b suitable for environments where Ethernet cable is not pre-wired or accessible.
