By Palm Boulevard Staff Handmark has upgraded MobileDB, a popular data listing tool for Palm OS handhelds. According to the company, MobileDB4 ($19.99) adds the ability to selectively move data to the Palm handheld’s built-in applications. For example, an event calendar, employee roster, PTA or other membership list that changes periodically can be created on a PC and converted to a MobileDB file. The entire list, or individual records, can then be added to the built-in Address Book or Date Book application on the device. Handmark said other new features include enhanced support for new 5-way buttons on the Palm Tungsten and other devices; support for the Jog-Dial on Sony handhelds; color headers and alternating rows, plus hi-resolution icons and controls; enhanced in-line checkboxes can be modified directly in the record list; enhanced security with locks for the entire database or "read-only" set; unique icons to identify the location of files stored on memory cards; and the ability to retain location information of files even if an expansion card is removed. The software costs $29.99 when purchased with plug-ins for Access, FileMaker, and Excel. The plug-ins automate the creation of MobileDB lists from other application data. Related Links:
