Action Engine and Handspring plan to bring Action Engine's software tools for over-the-air provisioning and device management to Handspring's Treo communicators through cooperative marketing and sales efforts.

According to the companies, Action Engine's tools simplify device configuration and registration, software maintenance, service provisioning, security, wireless data backup and restore, applications downloads, and more, giving wireless service providers a means of managing devices deployed on their networks while offering new data management features to Treo customers.

The companies said they intend to work together to integrate Action Engine's Mobile Web Services Platform into the Treo line. With the Action Engine Mobile Web Services Platform, the companies said network operators can create, manage and deploy browserless data applications to wireless devices. Handspring and Action Engine said they will also work together on co-marketing and sales in some focused channels, though no timeline was made available with regards to the launch of Action Engine-enabled Treo products. Action Engine technology also supports Symbian, Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition and Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone based devices.
