By Palm Boulevard Staff
Soft Pocket Solutions announced it would be addressing an issue that has had Sony CLIE owners up in arms ever since Sony first introduced the NX series back in October, the lack of CompactFlash memory card support. At first, CLIE owners were excited by the inclusion of the CompactFlash slot. However, Sony only enabled the slot to support one CompactFlash peripheral, its own WL100 Wireless networking Card, and offered no memory card support. The same issue applies to the new NZ90. No doubt Sony wanted CLIE owners to continue to exclusively support its own memory card medium, the Memory Stick. For months now, CLIE owners waited for a third-party to develop the drivers that would allow them to use the CompactFlash slot as a memory slot. In fact, ClieSource held a contest offering anyone who developed the CompactFlash memory driver a prize of $2,000 to no avail. ClieSource has also started a petition to get Sony to create one itself. The Soft Pocket Solutions driver, due in Beta by April, would allow users to use a CompactFlash card in the same manner CLIE owners currently use Memory Sticks. Currently, there's no word of any developers creating drivers that would enable third party CompactFlash peripherals on the CLIE. Related Links:
