At CTIA, Danger is demonstrating a color version of its hiptop wireless handheld and smartphone. A monochrome edition of the hiptop is being sold by T-Mobile as Sidekick in the U.S. Cnet is reporting that the FCC has given Danger permission to release the color hiptop. The color hiptop should be available this summer. The Sidekick/hiptop allows users to surf the Web, send and receive email, chat using AOL Instant Messenger service, play games, take and e-mail mobile snapshots and talk on the phone with an external headset, among other more standard PDA functions, such as a calendar and a note taking application. It features a 2.6-inch 240 x 160 pixel screen, a full HTML browser, and a clickable scroll wheel for browsing. The screen swivels up to a QWERTY keyboard. Danger also announced at CTIA the availability of the beta version of its Software Development Kit (SDK) for the hiptop Development Platform, agreements to support AOL and have its device carried by Triton PCS, as well as the formation of a new advisory board and the restructuring of its board of directors.
