Look for New Handspring Model This Summer

By PDAStreet.com Staff

The Register is reporting that Handspring fans will have to wait till summer for the company's next model. Handspring hinted to the Register that the next model will be a major redesign from current Treos.

It is likely the next Handspring model will be a smartphone, as the company has recently focused its efforts on PDA/phone hybrids rather than stand-alone PDAs. Also, the current line of Treos, the 270 and 300, has gained stiff competition from high-end Palm OS models that feature the latest Palm operating system, OS 5 compared to OS 3.5 in the Treos, faster processors, and better displays with support for many more colors, 65,000 to the Treo's 4,000 colors, and higher resolutions of 320x320 pixels to 160x160 pixels in the Treos. Another smartphone, the Kyocera 7135 even features an MP3 player and SD card slot not found in the Treos.
