By Vikki Lipset
Kyocera Monday announced that it will include Opera's Smartphone Edition in upcoming handsets.
Opera's software uses "small screen rendering," or SSR, technology to reformat Web pages to fit on smaller screens, such as those found on mobile phones. The Smartphone Edition uses the same core as the Windows version. Kyocera said it is the first major Asian manufacturer to use Opera on its products. "By including Opera, we strongly differentiate our products from others in Asia, giving users the possibility to put the full Web in their shirt pockets," said Junichi Jinno, general manager of the corporate communication systems equipment division at Kyocera. Kyocera said it will also be the first manufacturer in Japan to support full HTML rendering. Since Opera also supports cHTML and XHTML, Japanese mobile users will now be able to get the full Internet while also being able to access their old favorite mobile sites. Kyocera did not say when its products using Opera would be available.
