A Disappointed Customer
I am so disappointed with Handspring! I have been a faithful customer making a couple upgrades to Visor Prism. Well, I'm glad to know that the earpiece isn't a good investment. I don't need a "cherping" phone. Having my Stoneway keyboard is just the best. I really didn't want to get into the treo's. I guess I'm going to have to find another Company to go with after this. I'm sure they had no idea how upset people would be about the discontinuation of "Visor Products". Or perhaps they just didn't care...

No more visor!!
I hate to see the company do this to a client base, but I guess profit drives the line. I have had 3 other PDA's and the Visor with the modules and keyboard have been my personal companion for the past 3-4 years. My laptop is just gathering duct, the visor picked up so much of the slack for so few $$$'s. I commute to work by bike and having everything in one small pouch was a lifesaver!. The dB module, and the backup module made other PDA owners green w/envy. I guess I better treat my baby with even more care. What about all those med. app's and gluco tester apps they were coming out with in Europe? Maybe the Visor is more appreciated elsewhere in the world where useability far outweighs the potential for profit in the long run.

Visors Are The Best of All
It's just a crying shame that Handspring will discontinue their visor line. I use the keyboard, visorphone w/SIM card in combo and when i go hiking or biking i remove the phone, slip the visor into a rugged smash proof case, and slip my SIM card into a cheap nokia cell phone that i bought for $30 and don't mind if it drops on the street or rocks. (my visor has been damaged before during these activities) YOU COULD NEVER DO THIS W/ A TREO. It's just crazy to drop such a great entry line. Black and white screens are perfect if you are just processing information or getting email, which is what most people do, and it uses far less battery power. I THINK I WILL SELL ALL MY HANDSPRING STOCK, I no longer trust their decision making capability. They have enthroned themselves in their own ivory tower and no longer have their fingers on the pulse of the masses that made them go. Sure the treo is great, but it is not as expanable w/'out springboard, and is way too easy to damage. Where will enty level PDAers turn? NO longer to Handspring it seems. I guess i'll start recommending Windows PDAs to all my future clients although i really did enjoy setting them up with there first Visor and watch them become addicted. Oh well, corporate america is such a mess right now that nothing like these stupid decisions surprises me any more. (maybe they should sell their visor line to another company that cares about us, that would be a way to take care of us, if Handspring truly does care about us) I have invested alot of money in handspring PDAs over the years, but i guess that is now over. Good by Handspring. Anyone want a good deall on a few thousand shares of stock? gilbert

Visors
I had the Sprint Telephone adapter with the Prism. No other handheld has a joystick adapter. My Sony that I write for now has a game pad. I need a stick. Any help? BAE

It's not about the monochrome?
It's about the price vs. performance issue. I've owned several Visors over the past few years. Started with a Deluxe to replace my paper organizer and never looked back. The point behind the Visor is that it is INEXPENSIVE -- I'm on a very tight budget (what student isn't) and putting out $100 USD for an organizer from Handspring beats the heck out of putting out $350 USD for one from Palm that does the same thing.I'm not one of those nutjobs that buy a Harley just because it's a Harley. I'd buy something with two wheels and an engine, Honda or Suzuki, on the grounds that the idea is to transport yourself from one place to another and do it cheaply. The Visor Neo that I own now (and my wife has one as well -- we're a Visor household) does exactly what I need it to do, keep me on time and under budget. It didn't cost me an internal organ to get it, color isn't an issue and being able to swap BATTERIES instead of hauling a charger about when I travel is GOLDEN! Not to mention that buying anything PocketPC gives me the creeps. Having to face the BSOD at work doesn't give me ANY confidence in a MS-OS. I've never had a PalmOS app blow up on me yet. Maybe I'm lucky, but then again... I've got two Visor Neo's in storage at this point (one in Red for me, one in Blue for the missus), just in case the worst happens and I need to replace one of them. I'll keep my "dark ages" handheld because it does the job, does it cheaply, and hasn't let me down yet. Handspring may be looking to the future, but it's a sad state of affairs when they cut themselves off from the majority of their user-base. As a survivor of the "Apple ][ Forever" debacle in the '80s, I've lived through this sort of situation before and didn't like it much the last time it happened. I don't need a cell-PDA combo personally, and have no need or desire to purchase one in the future. I'm thinking that Handspring bet the farm on this new combo system. Too bad, especially if the results are the same as what happened to the Apple II community back in the day... Cheers, BeerGeek

Bummer!
Oh, how I love my Visor Edge. Before that I had a Visor and a Visor deluxe and couldn't stop myself from getting the next new thing. Damn, if the Edge had color I would have spent anything for it.

Story denied by Handspring
When I contacted them today, they responded:Handspring has no plan today for discontinuing Visor. It is clear though that over time, communicators will represent the majority of the market, and this is where we see the greatest opportunity for Handspring. This is a long-term vision for the company, not an immediate plan of action.

Disappointed
All the e-mails from Handspring never hinted at this. The springboard was a clear disappointment in the last year and a half as so many other devices (wireless, etc.) brought out better and cheaper to go in CF slots and MMC slots. This is an example of a company's leadership failing to follow a market that had happy customers and a great niche that is not going away. The color issue is so minor, 95% of what makes the PDA productive is on the basic models, the rest is bells and whistles, of which most people only need a few extra things that even the basic ones usually support to customize it to their use. Bad move Handspring. Any change in course now will probably not be bitten on by the users or the retailers, you killed yourselves.
