HP's Upcoming Summer of the iPAQ

May 30, 2003

Thanks to the FCC website we now have additional information about several upcoming Hewlett-Packard iPAQ Pocket PCs, including additions to the lower-end h1900 line and the new upcoming mid-range h2200 series.

h1900 Series
It appears there will be five new additions to the h1900 series. These include the h1930, h1935, h1937, h1940, and h1945, all of which should have 3.5-inch transreflective displays, the upcoming Pocket PC 2003 operating system, 64MB of RAM (56MB usable) and Secure Digital expansion slots with SDIO (Secure Digital In and Out) peripheral support. They will measure 4.46" long x 2.75" wide x .5" thick and weigh 4.23 ounces.

The h1930 models will include the 203MHz Samsung S3C2410 processor, while the h1940 models will include the same CPU running at the higher clock speed of 266MHz. It looks like the h1945 model will also feature integrated Bluetooth, a 14MB iPAQ File Store and HP's Mobile Print Center.

h2200Series
The iPAQ h2200 should include the Pocket PC 2003 OS, 64MB or more RAM, 32MB of ROM or more, a 900mAH Lithium Ion battery, a 3.5-inch color transflective display, as well as both CompactFlash and Secure Digital slots with SDIO support for peripherals. The devices will should around .5" long x 2.5" - 2.75" wide x 0.63" thick and weigh in the neighborhood of 5.49 ounces. It looks like the iPAQ h2200 series will feature Intel's Cotulla StrongARM SA1110 processor at either 200MHz or 400MHz.

At the high-end, you've got the continuation of the h5000 series with the h5555, which should sell for around $650. Not much else is known about this device other than it should take an evolutionary step up from the current h5450 rather than be a revolutionary new device.

It looks like all the new iPAQs should be coming our way sometime in July.
