Love my Palm
Pros : Bright screen, Palm os 5.2. 16 megs of memory. Nothing like taking pictures when you want to and sending them to friends. Your battery recharges while your palm is in the cradle. You can play mp3s and short movies. Really affordable. Cons: The navigation stick is hard for use in games. The sides of the palm are smooth which makes it slippery. They stylus doesnt have a unscrewable recharge tip. Can't voice record with the Zire 71, or use bluetooth.

ZIre 71 minor design issues
The PDA iself is nice. The screen brightness is fantastic, great response, etc. The camera's not spectacular, but it's not meant to be.I have two really major annoyances with it though. First, the cradle loos like it is not made for the Zire 71. When it is seated in the cradle, it is unstable and hard to tell if it is actually charging (no charging light). It wold be really easy to accidently bump it and not charge the battery. The other problem is the case. You cannot put the Zire into the case without pressing the joystick and turning on the machine. The case is unusable. These are both very simple design issues that should never have been allowed to happen. To me it's simply unacceptable. Finally, a stylus with a reset pin would be nice. I don't mind cheap plastic, but I want the reset functionality.

Zire 71 is Superb
I have now owned my Zire 71 for a week and I am very, very happy with it. It has been quite some time since I was so pleased with a purchase of electronic goods. I was using a Palm Vx previously. The Vx was a great PDA, but it was getting old. I procrastinated for quite some time over whether to buy the Zire 71 or Tungsten T. Initially, I baulked at the 71's form factor - I preferred the more conservative appearance of the T. However, I don't use bluetooth and eventually the 71's beautiful transflective screen, handy camera, and low price tag won me over. If you are reading reviews and tossing up whether to upgrade to a Zire 71, let me share the following with you: The 71's display is awesome. I just love to look at that screen. The sound from RealOne player is lovely and not as quiet as some reviewers seem to think. MP3's do take a little while to download to the device, but nowhere near long enough to make me buy an SD reader/writer. The camera is really very useful (think of it as a visual memo pad). The processor is so fast that the unit reacts almost instantaneously to your commands. Graffiti 2 will probably only take about a week to get used to (even for a lefty like me). And finally, the form factor has really grown on me - I now love the appearance of my 71 and it is smaller and lighter than many photos make it appear. If you're thinking of upgrading from a V or Vx, then don't hesitate - I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you are going to buy one, though factor in these extras which I think are essential for getting the full Zire 71 experience; (i) as big an SD card as you can afford (I strongly advise going with a 256MB card), (ii) headphones, and if you go away for any length of time (iii) a travel charger. The 71 is a fantastic little machine. After one week, I am completely enamoured of it. Well done Palm.

I love it. Great value. Everyone who has seen it wants one. The color screen in fantastic and the MP3 player and camera are great. Palm has introduced a winner.
