PDA Briefs: Special Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Support Edition

Mobile Automation's Mobile Lifecycle Management Suite will now support Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs, Microsoft's newest version of software for Pocket PC devices.

Mobile Automation's Mobile Lifecycle Management suite provides IT administrators the ability to gather detailed inventory reports and deploy software applications to handheld devices using Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs, in addition to providing management of desktops, laptops and other handheld devices.

In related news, Extended Systems and Synchrologic, other providers of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, will also support the new Pocket PC operating system.


Intermec today announced support for Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs by planning to ship the new operating system on its Intermec 700 Color models in the third quarter. Upgrades will be available for current 700 Series Color PDA customers as well.

Intermec's latest 700 Series model, 760 Color, is an enterprise Pocket PC that offers integrated imager options to read 1D and 2D bar codes, supporting image capture applications that includes signature capture. The rugged Pocket PC supports either Global Packet Ready Service or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 1xRTT connectivity. It also integrates 802.11b Wi-Fi.


All of Ilium Software's mobile applications, including eWallet, FreeWallet, ListPro, DockWare, Keep Track, Recordian, GameBag One, Tipster and PowerTap, are now available for the newest Windows Mobile operating system software.
iAnywhere Solutions My AvantGo software will be integrated into Windows Mobile 2003, the newest version of Microsoft software for Pocket PCs and Smartphones, offering users out-of-the-box access to the popular My AvantGo service, which includes including 2,500 channels handheld formated content. Channels include American Airlines, CNET, CNN and The New York Times.
MARGI Systems' Presenter-to-Go handheld presentation tool now supports PowerPoint animations. In addition to support for PowerPoint animations, MARGI has also announced that its Presenter-to-Go Pocket PC version 2.56 for CompactFlash and PC Card will support Microsoft's latest handhelds operating system.
Additonal companies that have announced support fo the new operating system include:

-- ScanSoft, a supplier of imaging, speech and language solutions, and its ScanSoft SpeechPearl automatic speech recognition and RealSpeak text-to-speech toolkits.

--Boingo Wireless and its new beta version of Pocket Boingo Software for Windows Mobile 2003, a free application that gives users point-and-click access to Wi-Fi networks in more than 1,300 Boingo hot spot locations. It is available on the Boingo website.

---- Good Technology, which is collaborating with Microsoft to deliver GoodLink and GoodInfo to the new Pocket PC operating system. GoodLink is a cradle-free, two-way, continuously synchronized messaging system similar to RIM BlackBerry.

--Audible's Internet audio service will be available to all users of the new generation of devices running Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. Pocket PC users who visit PocketPC.com will also be able to try a free month Audible service. Audible.com is the leading online retailer of audiobooks, audio editions of newspapers and periodicals, and public radio programs for download and mobile listening.

--PhatWare's most popular PDA applications are now available for for Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. These products include CalliGrapher, HPC Notes, PhatSpell, and Pocket dbExplorer.

--Tripod Data Systems plans to incorporate Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs into its line of rugged handheld computers.

--MobiMate's travel application, WorldMate, now supports Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PCs. key features include world clocks with automatic DST calculation, a Today screen plug-in, a world map, 5-day worldwide weather forecasts from The Weather Channel updated on-line, a currency converter with daily exchange rate updates, and an international weights and measurements converter.

----Expertcity's recently launched GoToMyPC PocketView service is compatible with Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. GoToMyPC PocketView is the new wireless feature of GoToMyPC, a Web-based remote-access service. Launched at CeBIT America last week, GoToMyPC PocketView allows GoToMyPC subscribers to access and control the full contents of their desktop PCs in real time.

--Symbol Technologies, announced a new version of the Symbol PPT 8800 Series industrial PDA with Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs.

-- Dell is updating its Dell Axim X5 handheld computer with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 and, and will offer a specially developed version of McAfee's VirusScan PDA for the Axim X5. New Axim customers will receive units based on Windows Mobile 2003 and can register for 30 days of free McAfee VirusScan PDA, or order a 12-month subscription with their systems for $19.00. Existing Axim customers in North America and Europe can purchase a Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade with companion CD from Dell for $29, and can order McAfee VirusScan PDA via the companion CD.

--PCTEL, a provider of Wi-Fi and cellular mobility software, software-defined radio products and access technology, announced today that its Segue Roaming Client for Wi-Fi services supports Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. The Segue Roaming Client, which is also available on Windows 98 SE, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME), Windows XP and Windows 2000, is designed to creates a process to give Windows Mobile users secure and seamless access and roaming capability to Wi-Fi networks.

--Novatel Wireless' Merlin GPRS and CDMA Families of Wireless PC Card Modems will be compatible with the new Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs.

--Cenuco has made available its Mobile Video Monitoring product line of wireless handheld clients for Windows Mobile 2003 Software on Pocket PCs. Cenuco's latest edition of the Mobile Video Monitoring client allows users to see live streaming video of CCTV installations, web cameras, or home security cameras from anywhere in the world via cellular, Wi-Fi, or 802.11 connectivity.

--Socket Communications range of CompactFlash and new SDIO form factor connection products will work with Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs, enabling users to connect their Pocket PCs to to computer networks remotely. Products include Bluetooth wireless technology, wireless LAN cards, digital phone cards, 56K modem cards, Ethernet cards and GPS solutions.

--Pharos Science & Applications' Pocket GPS Navigator with Bluetooth wireless technology supports Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC. The iGPS-BT is the first navigation kit for Windows Mobile-based devices to include a modular Bluetooth GPS receiver design. The iGPS-BT can also be connected to mobile devices via a CompactFlash slot, serial cable or USB cable.

--Pointsec Mobile Technologies' Pointsec for Pocket PC 2.0 mobile security software supports Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC. Pointsec for Pocket PC 2.0 is a security application offers automatic, real-time encryption of all data on a user's PDA, including data created using Microsoft Outlook e-mail, Notes, Pocket Word and more. Pointsec for Pocket PC 2.0 also automatically secures data stored on removable media such as MicroDrives, MultiMedia Cards, Secure Digital cards and Compact Flash cards.

--Developer One has launched Agenda Fusion 5.0, a time and contact management solution supporting Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs. The software is designed to help users to more effectively stay in touch with contacts and manage busy schedules when on the go.
