Onset Enhances Enterprise Admin Tool for BlackBerry

Onset Technology today announced an enhancement to its METAmessage for Wireless product that gives system administrators the ability to perform system tasks directly from their Research In Motion BlackBerry handheld. METAmessage for Wireless is a out-of-the-box solution for handheld access to the enterprise.

According to the company, an administrator can now send any shell-command type instruction to their network via a simple form. METAmessage then returns the command output to the administrator as a standard METAmessage response message. The command session remains active and maintains the latest state to enable a series of commands.

Onset said, depending on how the product is licensed, users can interact directly with a range of enterprise data systems including document management/time-and-billing programs, enterprise applications, and internally developed databases. The user opens a form on the handheld and either requests information from or adds information to the data source.

The company also said users can get network files to send, read, or print; access the Web, without opening a browser; spell-check outgoing messages; as well as read email attachments and Web pages and print them.
