A Bluetooth version of Dell's the Axim X3i Pocket PC has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

When it was released last fall, the Axim X3i, which includes 802.11b Wi-Fi, was also supposed to have Bluetooth, but Dell decided not to include the wireless technology to keep costs down. In fact, the antenna of Axim X3i has a Bluetooth logo. There was also a question of the amount of demand there was out there for the technology.

Other than the addition Bluetooth, it looks like the new version of the X3i will include the same features as the Wi-Fi only model. These features are a 400MHz Intel XScale processor, 64MB of RAM, 64MB of Flash memory, 3.5-inch, 240x320 pixel and 65K color display, removable battery, Secure Digital slot and Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC operating system, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker and microphone.

It also comes with a sync/recharge cradle that has an extra battery charge slot that accommodates either a spare standard battery (950 mAh) or an optional high-capacity (1800 mAh) battery.

Pricing and availability for the new edition to the Axim family haven't been made available yet.
