By James Miller
U.S. reseller Wireless Devices plans to begin working with U.S. companies to license Bitstream's ThunderHawk mobile browser for corporate and carrier use. By working with Wireless Devices, Bitstream could reach a great deal more customers for its highly regarded Windows Mobile browser. Anna Chagnon, President and CEO of Bitstream, said “Wireless Devices’ parent company, CWS Ltd., has a sales force made up of 400 representatives, who will also begin working immediately with U.S. companies to license ThunderHawk for corporate and carrier use. We’re excited about working with Wireless Devices, an established service provider who is knowledgeable about the Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology, and who can expand the reach of our ThunderHawk sales efforts.” ThunderHawk relies on a proxy server combined with a small piece of thin-client code on the actual handheld. The server, which transmits Web content in a more compact format to a handheld, enables a Pocket PC with a 240x320 resolution color screen to display a SVGA (800x600) or VGA (640x480) screen of a Web page. ThunderHawk Enterprise Server is a version of BitStream's client-server technology for corporations and telecommunications companies. It provide wireless Web browsing across networks for access to Internet and corporate intranet Web pages. Now in alpha release, ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition enables users to browse a 800x946 resolution Web page on the 176x220 display of a Windows Powered Smartphone.
