Great O/S! Useless phone :<(
PDA functions are great. Phone is absolutely USELESS!!!!. I have had unit replaced several times. My wife has same phone with same problems. DON'T even try to use a bluetooth headset. It crackles and pops on every unit we have tried also range is about 3ft from phone. Service is Cingular. So bad we tried to return for another phone but were told we couldn't do so without purchasing another phone from Cingular regular price $$$. Cingular service was also a disappointment. It was cheaper to just pay the $171 cancellation fee and get another carrier and phone. STAY AWAY FROM TREO!!(and Cingular if they can't support their products any better) Similar problems with phone reception have been reported with Treo 700p. Palm O/S is great maybe they can mate it with a 'real' phone that actually functions and makes phone calls.

Sorry? not as useful as you claim
I had three of these in a row from the local Verizon store and had to take all three back..... (for 3 different problems) being a Palm user for more years than I like to admit, I had to "settle" for an 8100. Don't get me wrong... it's a great phone but when it comes to "Versamail" FORGET IT. You will have to pay some 3rd party company to handle your email cause versamail will not let you send an email thru your pop server. You have to go thru MSN or some other mail outfit. It will let you download your mail, but that all folks.... It was EXTREMELY tough to give it up... even with the 50 bucks additional payment for the unlimited service from verizon.... but why pay all that money monthly if you can't use 2 way email without spending another 50 bucks or more to do it.... Sorry... not as useful as claimed. Other problems I had with the 3 units.... total lockup of the palm system which rendered the phone unusuable.... constant recycling of the re-boot process in an endless loop that was only corrected by a "hard reset" which is rediculous... and none of them worked properly with the excuse of a mail program versamail.... ). Don't suspect the 700w is any better!

cingular sucks
I bought the treo 650 from the local cingular store. guess what; no one there knew how to work it! I was amazed. The unit kept freezing up. I too was bounced between palm and cingular. Had to return the unit twice. Finally gave up in disgust. I'm amazed cingular doesn't train their staff. Everyone I spoke to with a verizon treo 650 is very happy with it. I'll be buying one this week. Real good local vendor, with good support.

Treo 650
Ok, bought this on Saturday 11/19/05. Purchased at local BJ's in their Verizon 'hut'. We have had Verizon for 4 or 5 years, so we were due for upgrades. I previously used the Kyocera 7135, which I LOVED. Just recently it started to give some indications of issues, so I decided to upgrade. In the past I had also had two Handspring pda/phone combos, and hated both. The good on this phone/pda: Bright Vibrant screen, good integration of apps, powerful fast processor, great use of buttons and shortcuts, average in size and weight, I get far better service. In my office with my 7135 I had limited service, in my basement, i had none. With the palm, I now have strong service in both. The battery seems to last very well. while I didn't use the phone alot I didn't lose ANY battery life, and from what I understand the phone has a overcharge protection and that is a huge plus, in the past, I've gotten extra batteries for almost every phone I've had. The bad: sound on incoming calls...not horrible, not great. , no way to use graffiti , if you use verizon's case you will dial unless you lock the keyboard. All in all, as long as you 'tweak' this phone with freeware and included utilities this is a winner imho. Palm bundled some shareware with the phone that should have been included full versions. IE. voice dial. these days where hands free is the law in many states, this should have been included. I am pleasantly shocked that it works as well as it does, but when it expires instead of saying 'call Mom', you will have to say call 5555555. kind of a draw back for contacts....but for Mom's, if you don't know your mother's phone number, you should be shot anyway :) Like I said, we got our phones at BJ's. My wife picked a 'freebie' not needing extended capabilites, and I got the palm that listed for $499. I was able to use her $100 credit, plus mine. We got cases for both, changed our plan to save us money, plus I now get unlimited text messaging, and we walked out paying $339 'ish. Not bad, as I thought all total it would be closer to 500.
