Shuts down at random
The unit is great...when it turns on. Unfortunately random shutdowns occur at least once each day, meaning that it simply cannot be relied on as a phone.

Worse still, the "Red Light Of Death" has come on for me a couple of times now when I've tried to recharge this thing. No way of turning it on, or rebooting it - save for taking the battery out and putting it back in again.

Forums elsewhere indicate that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I've contacted HP for a replacement/refund...I'll let you know how I go.

Hey Raj,
Did you find the solution? My ipaq keeps shutting down automatically. Very irritating.

These days it even fails to recognise my sim card.

crazy.

Anyone let me know.

Problems in the 6515
I am having this peculiar problem in my HP 6515 IPAQ. The instrument automatically shuts down while in use. Even the service centre guys are not able to figure out the problem. Please suggest something for this problem

Parts are nice when they work
I am currently going on my 3rd iPAQ. The bluetooth has only wokred once on any of them, it lasted a day; well part of one any way. GPS, never got it up on any of them. All 3 I've had ate there own memory by the end of the day, but they are insisting on sending me another replacement; maybe this one will work. I could of just had bad luck with them. The rest of the phone works nice when it works.

Awesome Unit!
A Palm OS user since '97 but I went through several defective Treo 650's and decided to give the HP iPAQ hw6515 a try. I LOVE it! I'm a Mac user so I had to buy supplemental software (PocketMac) to get it to sync with my Mac but it was worth it.

The features and ease of use are terrific. My Plantronics M2500 Bluetooth headset works well with it - LOUD actually, I have to crank the volume down.

I was very confused at the way you tested the GPS and software though. Face down in your lap? Seems like it would lessen the satellite reception as well as disorient it. Your results are understandable given how you had it positioned. With a remote Bluetooth receiver that would be fine but this unit and its small antenna needs to be oriented differently.

To test I downloaded a demo of Mapopolis to test it with and rigged it so the hw6515 was on the air vents in my vehicle with good access to the sky. I updated the Quick GPS Connection and took off. Worked beautifully.

I got one misdirection in my testing and I decided to follow it to see where it would take me. Turns out it was my fault as I clicked on the address above the one I wanted from the list. It took me right to the wrong address as it should have. I had it route me to an address that was in my Contacts, that is a cool feature.

My only negative so far is that I keep forgetting that the flip-up screen protector is down and keep tapping on it to make a selection. Doh!

And, as with ALL other units, I wish it had a few gigs of intermal memory. Awesome unit.

Can't Hear anything
I liked the PDA on the phone, took some getting used to but the screen was unbelievably responsive. And syncing with my computer was flawless. Given that I really really want an integrated electronic unit that does everything, I've really tried to give this a good show, however, sitting in a quiet home office, I can barely hear anything, let alone on a street, or with wind noise in the background. It's just awful. I need a TELEPHONE!!!!. Apparently this problem is endemic with all the smart phones. I'm going to go get a cheaper phone and a better PDA and a better camera and a better MP3 Player.
