By James Alan Miller
A couple of weeks ago Hewlett Packard released a software update for its top-of-the-line iPAQ hx4700 series to correct a couple of audio problems with the Pocket PC (see HP Posts hx4700 Audio Update … Again). This week, the company informed PDAStreet of plans to release a ROM update too this Spring—a specific date wasn't offered. Specifically, HP told us it is in the process of developing what it calls a Software Maintenance Update ROM release. When available on the HP support site, the free hx4700 ROM update will address Wi-Fi improvements and CompactFlash Card Recognition issues, as well as deliver performance enhancements. There should also be an upgrade to Microsoft Windows Mobile Media 10 for the Pocket PC series. This application enables the seamless transfer of media from a PC running Windows XP to the PDA, in addition to the ability to playback audio and video on the handset. The update will be available in English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean Brazilian Portuguese and Italian. We'll inform you when HP actually posts the download. For more on the iPAQ hx4700 series, see Review: HP hx4705 - iPAQ Establishes Pocket PC High Watermark Related Links:
