With Toffa's GooSync, now in beta, users can sync their Google Calendar with smartphones running on a number of different platforms, including the Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems.

Google Calendar is an online application that allows users to organize their schedule and share events with others. You can also set up automatic event reminders that can be received via e-mail or SMS to your mobile handset.

The free GooSync service synchronizes your mobile phone calendar with Google Calendar, including over-the-air, as long as there is an Internet connection. But you must first sign up for a GooSync account. Once that's done, simply hit your device's sync button and your all set, according to Toffa.

It is not clear if the company will or will not charge for GooSync when the beta period ends.

Google's own new Gmail client promises to deliver a more consistent user experience across a variety of phones, in addition to simpler and faster access to wireless e-mail than the XHTML browser-based version of Gmail Google has been offering since December of last year.

At the same time, Google says it is in the process of testing dozens of new search technologies in an effort to better present results on cell phones, smartphones, PDAs and other Pocket-sized devices.

This summer Google updated its popular Google Maps software, supported by numerous mobile phones and smartphones, including Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry handhelds. Formerly called Google Local for Mobile, RIM and Google first announced BlackBerry support back in January.

Google Maps enables users to view maps and satellite imagery with zoom in and out capabilities, as well as find local businesses and get driving directions. It provides draggable maps, a "click to call" feature, and stores addresses you have typed in or used for directions.
