Although the iPAQ hx4700 series recently went missing from Hewlett-Packard's( HP) commerce site, leading to speculation that the company discontinued the handheld, the long wait for an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 is apparently finally over for owners of the high-end Pocket PC. The computer and printer giant's North American Web site says users can buy Microsoft's latest handheld operating system for their device on CD already, while a download version is coming soon—not very specific we know. Meanwhile, the system update is already available to English speakers for $39.99 - as a download - from HP's European Web sites. HP first started offering Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrades for several other iPAQs - the hx2110, hx2410, and hx2750 - back in September 2005. But it delayed the system update for the hx4700 because of conflicts with its VGA screen, presumably.
