Juniper Systems new Archer Field PC is a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC that meets a number of specifications for ruggedness, including the IP67 and MIL-STD-810F standards for drop, vibration, immersion, shock, humidity, and operating temperatures. It runs on 520 MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM; measures 6.5 x 3.5 x 1.7 inches; and weighs 17 ounces. According to the company, the Archer's case is made of magnesium with an easy-to-grip over-molding, while its QVGA (240 x 320 pixel) color display measures 3.5 inches and its rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack operates for more than 20 hours on a single charge and recharges in under 4 hours. There's also a Juniper-designed communications module that provides USB host and client capabilities plus a 9-pin RS-232 serial port for use with peripheral devices. User accessible and sealed - from the environment - Compact Flash and Secure Digital In Out card slots let you integrate a camera, GPS receiver, barcode scanner or memory cards, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cellular modem wireless options.
