By James Alan Miller
This may soon change. The evidence is Sprint's connection manager, which now references a Treo 700wx.
According to rumors, the the 'x' in the model number may be there to different the Sprint Treo from Verizon's, because it adds features; such as twice as much memory, moving to 64 MB from 32 MB.
The Treo 700wx may ship to Sprint business customer towards the end of the month, on Augiust 27th, before becoming generally available to its subscribers on September 3rd. Sprint's possible release of the Treo 700wx would have nothing to do with Palm's soon-to-be released new GSM/UTMS Treo (the 750) for Vodafone in Europe; a version of which may become available in the U.S. via Cingular Wireless, with the addition of HSDPA broadband. This device is also based on Windows Mobile, but nixes the traditional Treo antenna. Sprint and Verizon's CDMA/EV-DO handsets won't work on GSM carrier's networks and GSM phones for operators in Europe and Cingular in America won't work on those carrier's networks.
