DataViz Documents To Go is the most popular mobile office application for the Palm platform. It allows users to view, edit and sync Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) files and more with their PDA or smartphone.

Today, DataViz announced it will soon introduce a version of Documents To Go for Windows Mobile Smartphones in the near future. This is significant because it will be the first document editor for the Smartphone flavor of the Windows Mobile platform.

You see, while this operating system (OS) is popular - used in notable devices like the Motorola Q, T-Mobile Dash, and the Samsung BlackJack - you can only view but not edit software - unlike with Windows Mobile Pocket PCs, which allows you to do both through Microsoft's Office Mobile.

As with the Palm edition of Documents To GO, the software includes DataViz's InTact technology, which makes sure the formatting and layout of documents are maintained when edited on a smartphone. This means, for example, all file formatting - even the complex (like headers and footers, macros and animations) - is reflected when a desktop file is opened on a smartphone after being received from a desktop or e-mailed as an attachment directly from a mobile device to a desktop.

In addition to Microsoft Office files, users can view Adobe PDF files and decompress zipped attachments. It also supports charting and password protected Excel and Word files.

A beta preview of DataViz To Go for Windows Mobile, that has thus far only been tested on the Motorola Q, Samsung BlackJack & i320 and T-Mobile Dash, is now available.
