By James Alan Miller
Available in red and titanium, the 8310 goes for $199.99 with a two-year contract and after a mail-in rebate. Red is exclusive to AT&T in the U.S. The 8310, like other recent RIM models, is far stronger when it comes to multimedia than BlackBerrys of the past. You can watch video on the 8310's QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) resolution, 65,000 color screen and listen to music through the built-in speaker or with standard or wireless headphones, the latter in stereo over Bluetooth, the former when connected to the new Curve’s 3.5mm stereo headset jack. There's also a 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and a microSD card slot to greatly boost storage capacity. AT&T offers TeleNav GPS Navigator to help users take advantage of the 8310's GPS feature. It provides turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions with 3-D moving maps and traffic alerts with rerouting. TeleNav costs extra, however: $5.99 for 10 trips or $9.99 an unlimited package. The 8310 measures 4.2 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and weighs in at only 3.9 ounces. It supports AT&T's Mobile Music subscription services and push-to-talk; both of which cost extra per month. Unlike AT&T's BlackBerry 8820, the 8310 does not include a Wi-Fi component for accessing data services, such as e-mail and the Web. Rather, users must rely on AT&T's 2.5G EDGE network. With it you can access these data services in over 135 countries, however. Phone calls are supported in over 190 countries. AT&T's BlackBerry Personal Unlimited plans gives you unlimited e-mail and Web access through RIM's BlackBerry Internet Service. It starts at $29.99 per month. Unlimited corporate e-mail and data access through BlackBerry Enterprise Server starts at $44.99 a month. AT&T also offers an international plan for those who travel a lot. Related Links:
