Palm has introduced a ROM upgrade that brings Windows Mobile 6 to the unlocked edition of the Treo 750. That's the version you pay full price for - no carrier discounts - but is usable with most any GSM operator.
Sure, this development isn't going to make AT&T Treo 750 users all that happy. It is a step in the right direction, and does show that Palm hasn't forgotten them, however. Perhaps Palm will get that long-awaited platform upgrade out soon.
Enhancements include improved calendar management with an improved user interface; better e-mail messaging, HTML/Smart Filtering, SharePoint access etc.; and support for voice commands via Bluetooth and USB cable charging
Keep in mind: once you install this download on your device, you will not be able to revert back to Windows Mobile 5.0.
Also, Windows Mobile 6 does not support the Blackberry Connect service. So do not install this update if you use this service on your Treo 750. Tom Tom GPS solutions may not function correctly with the platform upgrade as well.
Palm says this particular download will be available for one year, until October 31, 2008.
A supposed AT&T presentation leaked earlier this month showed free maintenance software upgrade, with Windows Mobile 6, could arrive at any moment for the Treo 750. It would also include an upgrade to 1.8Mbps HSPDA (a 3.5G cellular networking technology) for much faster data transfers, "improved phone controls" and the addition of a number of AT&T Entertainment and productivity applications, including AT&T Mail, AT&T Music, Cellular Video, MobiTV, TeleNav, among other features. All of which should eventually come pre-installed on freshly bought Treo 750s.
