Control Pro Tools Setup from iPhone with ProRemote

By James Alan Miller
December 12, 2007

An application to allow users of the iPhone or iPod Touch to remotely control Pro Tools LE—software commonly used by musicians to record music on a computer—in now available. The developer of the software is said to be an experienced programmer with a background in Pro Tools.

The application, called ProRemote (see video below), is supposed to offer detailed feedback on a number of Pro Tools' features while quite successfully mimicking the look and feel of the software on the iPhone. You're can even use it to manage your Pro Tools setup remotely over AT&T's EDGE network.

Find out more about the application at Create Digial Music, which offers a detailed note from the developer, one Alex le Lievre, about how ProRemote works, how it was created, and his plans for the future of the application.

Lievre says he would like to sell ProRemote for about $150, but only after he gets it certified by Apple, which can't happen until the promised native software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone becomes available in February.

For now, ProRemote runs on iPhones and iPod Touches that have been jailbroken using software developed by hackers to allow these devices to run third-party software natively. Lievre says ProRemote should come out in beta next week.
