DataViz Delays Documents To Go for the BlackBerry Platform

Back in May, DataViz promised to release a version of its popular mobile office application, Documents To Go, for RIM's BlackBerry handhelds and smartphones by the end of 2007. We’ve just learned through a posting on the DataViz Web site that the software has been delayed until early 2008.

This product is currently in full development and DataViz is committed to providing a high quality solution which meets the expectations of the BlackBerry community. However, the project is taking longer than initially estimated. Therefore, DataViz is now anticipating public availability in Q1 2008. We thank you for your continued interest in this product and apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

As with the Palm OS and Windows Mobile versions of Documents To Go, the BlackBerry edition, when it is finally released, will sport DataViz's InTact technology to make sure the formatting and layout of documents are maintained when edited on a BlackBerry.

This means, for example, all file formatting—even the complex (like headers and footers, macros and animations)—is reflected when a file is opened on a BlackBerry after being received from a desktop or e-mailed as an attachment directly from a BlackBerry to another handheld or a PC.

In addition to Microsoft Office files, users can view Adobe PDF files and decompress zipped attachments with Documents to Go. It also supports charting and password protected Excel and Word files.

Documents To Go is available for Symbian UIQ and Nokia S80 smartphones in addition to the previously mentioned mobile-device platforms.

You can sign up to learn when Documents To GO for BlackBerry is released on DataViz's Web site.
