Sling Media Betas Windows Mobile 6 Client

Sling Media's has launched a beta software client for Windows Mobile devices built on version 6 of the popular mobile operating system.

With smartphones built on the new platform starting to make their way to market (e.g. T-Mobile Wing, Dash), this move was only a matter of time, as some Slingbox users are beginning to face the prospect that their upgraded or brand new smartphone would no longer be able to receive home-based television content when on the road.

If you’re a SlingBox owner, use Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, and would like to try out the new beta software, shoot an e-mail to SlingMedia, which promises to bet back to you within 24 hours.

SlingMedia expects the official version of the Windows Mobile 6 SlingPlayer client to become available during the first part of June.

The SlingPlayer mobile client links a smartphone to a Slingbox device, which is attached to a user's television, so they can 'placeshift' cable, satellite, or digital video recorder (DVR) content to wherever they are in the world through a wireless broadband - 3G cellular or Wi-Fi - Internet connection.

In the case of a DVR, for example, users can not only watch recorded shows, but pause and rewind live TV or queue new recordings from their smartphone as well.

There are three SlingBoxes available: Slingbox PRO ($250), the Slingbox AV ($180), and the Slingbox Tuner ($180); each for specific type of home entertainment center setup.
