At the Wireless Enterprise Symposium in Orlando, Research In Motion (RIM) unveiled the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System, or BlackBerry MVS, which enables a BlackBerry to become a mobile extension of your desk phone.
BlackBerry MVS allows access to PBX functions directly from your BlackBerry menu, so one phone number will ring your BlackBerry or your office phone. It also allows access to functions that normally require access to the desk, such as transfer and extension dialing from your BlackBerry menu. A downside for the BlackBerry workers, by having the BlackBerry meet the PBX for calls it allows for the calls to be logged or recorded for audit or compliance purposes. Please keep this in mind when talking on your BlackBerry. On a bright note, this can take the home office to a whole new level. This new system is expected to be available later this month.
