Visual Voice Mail Comes to BlackBerry First

By Melissa Oxendale

SimulScribe has a new service for BlackBerrys that's akin to the new Visual Voicemail system AT&T and apple are implementing with the iPhone. Called SimulSays, the company refers to the system as visionary voicemail (sic).

Currently in beta, free, and compatible with newer BlackBerry models (e.g. the 8800, Pearl, Curve), SimulSays allows users to scroll through a list of voice mails and click to listen to the ones they want in the order they want.

It integrates with a BlackBerry's contact book and allows users to reply by phone, text message or e-mail. You manage and delete voicemail directly from your handset. And you can mark voicemails as important messages that need special attention, in addition to forwarding voicemail as audio files by e-mail.

SimulSays is launched directly from the BlackBerry's main menu and notifies users of new voicemail messages, even when the application is closed. And rather than listen to voicemail using your voice minutes, SimulSays streams them over a data connection.

The service is not as simple as just downloading the application; you do have to make modifications to your voicemail settings manually on your BlackBerry.
