Review: Chuzzle - A Fun Way to Pass the Time

With PopCap's game Chuzzle ($7.99), Magmic Games has another winner on their hands for BlackBerry users. Chuzzle is a match-three puzzle game in the Bejewled mode.

If you have played Chuzzle online then you know what to expect from the BlackBerry version. Basically, when you match little creatures called Chuzzles by color in groups of three or more they pop. You earn points as they pop and once you reach a certain number of points you move on to the next level.

You can play regular, zen (never ending), expert, and mindbender (match the puzzle).

Game-play is easy. Use the scroll ball to move around, click to grab a Chuzzle and move left, right, up, or down. Click again to release it.

You can turn sounds on or off, change the language, set the movement to manual or auto, set popping manual or auto, and set the back light to always on or default.

Some really neat little details in the game: When the Chuzzles go to sleep they close their eyes and some even snore with little zzz's. When you go to exit the game the Chuzzles in the background will cry.

The only thing I had trouble with is when you hit spacebar to get a hint. It costs you points and you do not get any conformation message that the points have been taken. I kept hitting space bar by accident, getting irritated with myself. I now try to keep my fingers away from the space bar whenever I play.

You can pause the game as long as you want, unless you turn your BlackBerry off. This makes it a great game to play while doing something else, as you don't have to worry about a time limit. You also earn trophies by doing certain things within the game. And it keeps high scores so you can see how you did against yourself.
