Verizon Wireless is now offering a new smartphone, the SMT5800, online. Due to hit retail on January 21st, the Windows Mobile device is a candybar-shaped smartphone with numeric keypad on the front and a QWERTY thumb-keyboard that slides out the side.

HTC built the SMT5800—it's based on the original design manufacturer's Libra design—which runs on the Standard version of Windows Mobile 6, meaning - among other things - its 2.4-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixel) resolution display isn't a touch screen.

The SMT5800 measures 4.1 x 2.0 x 0.7 inches and weighs 4.2 ounces.

Specifications include a microSD card slot for memory expansion and Bluetooth 2.0 with support wireless stereo headphones.

It supports Verizon's speedy EV-DO 3G data network and can be used as a modem to access the Internet and corporate network for notebooks.

The SMT5800 sells for $299.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with new two-year contract. Those who purchase a qualified voice plan along with a data plan may be eligible for an additional $100 credit.
