Verizon Wireless customers who attended (or will attend, if the Rays manage to win tonight) World Series games at The Trop in St. Petersburg, Florida were treated to enhanced voice and data services, thanks to the carrier's high-tech Cell on Wheels (COW) - a mobile cell phone tower of sorts. COW is a device that features a 75-foot telescoping antenna and 11 dedicated voice and high-speed data channels, each of which can handle hundreds of phone calls and data transmissions simultaneously. The enhanced technology boosted capacity in surrounding areas of Tampa Bay as well, in anticipation of a surge in both voice and data transmissions-including photo messages. Verizon Wireless had already boosted wireless capacity during the American League Championship Series, when the Rays took on the Boston Red Sox. Now, the company says it's doing its part for the Tampa Bay Rays' first World Series appearance.
Fan's who managed to score tickets had no excuse not to send their World Series view off to all their friends.
