Thunderbird users who have installed the Lightening extension and are using that calendar can't directly sync with a BlackBerry. But, by linking both your computer and your handheld to a Google calendar, you can achieve synchronization. Events inputted on either device will be pushed to both at frequent intervals.

If you haven't already, install the Lightening extension in Thunderbird to get the calendar. Also, you'll need a Google login. Then, from the Thunderbird calendar, select Calendar-->New Calendar-->On the Network and select Google Calendar. You'll need to log into your Google calendar to find the information that Thunderbird asks you for. (Log into Google, select calendar from the More drop-down menu if you don't have it on your home page, click on Settings.)

Next, you need to download Google Sync to your BlackBerry. Here are Google's step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing it.

With both Thunderbird and BlackBerry now regularly syncing with Google, you can access and edit your calendar from either one-or from any device that gives you Web access to Google-and everything stays organized. If you want, you can also share your Google calendar with other users and elect whether you want their calendars to show up on your Thunderbird or your BlackBerry.
