Put First 'gPhone' Through Its Paces

By James Alan MIller

Can't wait to give T-Mobile's G1, the first Google Android-run smartphone, a try? If so, then check out this emulator the operator includes on its new G1 site.

In addition to the emulator, the site offers visual guides, instructions and a 360 degrees view of the G1. Although the emulator gives you a "this screen is not fully functional" message for many of the applications and GPS - for obvious reasons -is not going to get a fix on your location, it's a great way to become familiar with the G1's basic functionality.

T-Mobile expects to sell half a million G1s during its first quarter of release and eventually hitting the 2 million mark. They've already sold out of the G1s set aside for preorder and deliver on launch day, October 22nd. It goes for $179 with a two-year contract.
