No HTC Touch HD for US

By James Alan Miller
October 8, 2008

One of the most-advanced smartphones on the market, the Touch HD from HTC, will not make it to the U.S. This according to a posting in the company's Twitter feed.

The feed says "sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news." HTC counterbalances this disappointing news somewhat by adding "we do have other cool stuff coming."

One of these cool devices is the G1, the first official Google Android-run smartphone, which HTC built for T-Mobile. The carrier is supposed to launch the G1 in a couple of weeks.

In fact, HTC goes on to toot its horn a little regarding the G1, asking Twitter readers to "remember we're launching the G1 in the US first. The US does get some hot HTC phones before they come to Europe."

The Touch HD, which should start shipping in Europe next month is one of the newest models in HTC's popular series of touch screen Windows Mobile smartphones. It sports an extremly high-resolution 800 x 480-pixel resolution display that is said to be very impressive.

Additional features of the quad-band/HSDPA world smartphone include the latest update to Microsoft's mobile-device operating system, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and a powerful 528MHz CPU. There's also 288MB of RAM, 512MB of flash storage, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth with stereo headset support, a 5 megapixel camera and a microSD slot.

Apparently, HTC's heard outcry of disappointment regarding now Touch HD for the U.S. loud and clear. Later on in its Twitter feed, HTC adds "Thank you all for expressing your desire for the HD. really! now the US management know there's a grassroots demand for high end HTCs here."
