AT&T, T-Mobile in Voicemail Hacking Settlement

By Brian T. Horowitz
December 15, 2008

Several news outlets, such as the San Jose Mercury News, are reporting that lawsuit settlements have been reached among AT&T, T-Mobile, and TelTech in a voicemail hacking case.

According to MercuryNews.com, New Jersey–based TelTech will pay $33,000 in penalties and for investigative costs, AT&T Mobility will pay $59,300, and T-Mobile will pay $25,000.

The news site reports that prosecutors claimed TelTech was untruthful about the legality of California SpoofCard service, and the phone carriers misrepresented the SpoofCard service, which allows customers to provide phony caller IDs to check voicemail on cell phones.
