Estonians to Cast Ballots on Smartphones

The AP has reported that Estonia will become the first country to vote in an election via mobile phone. Lawmakers approved the measure on Thursday allowing citizens in 2011 to cast their vote in parliamentary elections on their smartphones.

The SK Certification Center in Estonia will issue chips with personal identification to insert into mobile phones.

According to the AP, Finland and Sweden also have the cellular technology to hold a mobile election.
