RIM Earnings Up Despite Stormy BlackBerry Debut

Research In Motion has posted third quarter results of $2.78 billion, a net increase in revenue of 7.9 percent from the second quarter and an uptake of 66.3 percent from the same quarter last year.

The numbers were in line with the preliminary third quarter results the company reported earlier this month.

"We are pleased to report record revenue results for the third quarter, and we have entered the fourth quarter with strong momentum despite the challenging general economic conditions," said Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of RIM, in a statement.

Meanwhile, various reports indicate RIM is unable to keep up with demand for the new touch-screen BlackBerry Storm, which was unveiled last month.

Still, reports indicate RIM faces an alarming return rate for the Storm and dismal customer reviews. A software upgrade fixed some concerns with delayed orientation shifts and Web page uploading, however.
