If the evolution of desktop PCs includes the ability to run Mac and Windows operating systems on the same hardware, then it's only logical that a similar dual-platform arrangement would eventually emerge in the handheld realm. Sure enough, RIM appears poised to release a BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile.

It doesn't convert your Windows Mobile completely into a BlackBerry, but it will give you access to certain BlackBerry features, such as e-mail, BlackBerry Messenger, BES synchronization, calendar, tasks, address book and memos.

Both Windows Mobile and the BlackBerry suite can even be tied to separate Exchange accounts.

Device-reliant features like GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can't be accessed via the BlackBerry OS, though, and video playback also isn't supported. Though the blogosphere is abuzz with excitement worthy of a pending release, RIM hasn't announced a date just yet.
